PPE for Industrial Blasting & Coating

Personal Protective Equipment is not optional in abrasive blasting — it is legally required and operationally critical. Abrasive blasting generates respirable silica dust (exposure limit: 0.025 mg/m³ OSHA PEL), high-velocity rebound particles, and noise levels exceeding 115 dB(A). BLAST APEX PPE is designed for industrial blast environments, not general construction use.

Our equipment range covers all critical PPE for blasting operators: respiratory protection (helmet + supplied air), body protection (leather suits), hand protection (gloves), and foot protection (safety boots). All equipment is selected for compatibility with BLAST APEX blast machines and breathing air filter systems.

PPE Range

Industrial Blast Helmet

High-impact resistant respirator helmet for abrasive blasting operators, featuring wide-angle viewing and positive pressure air supply.

ANSI Z87.1+ impact rated visor — 3mm polycarbonate
Positive pressure (2.5+ mbar) — prevents dust ingress
Air flow: 170-250 L/min via breathing air hose
Wide-angle view — 180° visibility
Industrial Role:

Respiratory and impact protection.

Breathing Air Filter

Grade D air purification system for converting industrial compressor air into safe, breathable air for blasting helmets.

Removes oil mist: <0.01 mg/m³ (Grade D limit)
Dew point: below -45°C (prevents moisture in hose)
CO monitoring with auto-shutoff alarm
Cartridge life indicator — visual + differential pressure gauge
Technical Gain:

Removes oil mist, odors, and particulates.

Leather Blasting Suit

Heavy-duty chrome leather reinforced suit for maximum operator protection against high-velocity abrasive rebound.

Chrome-tanned cowhide — 1.0-1.2mm thickness
Double-stitched seams at stress points
Kevlar thread reinforcement at shoulders/elbows
Sizes: S to 4XL — loose fit for mobility
Industrial Role:

Impact and abrasion protection.

Industrial Blasting Gloves

Double-reinforced chrome leather gloves with extended cuffs for maximum hand and forearm protection during nozzle handling.

Double palm and thumb pad — 2mm leather reinforcement
Cotton lining — absorbs sweat, reduces heat stress
Extended 15cm cuff — protects forearms from rebound
Grip texture on index finger and palm for wet/oily nozzle handling
Industrial Role:

Grip and abrasion protection.

Operator Safety Footwear

Heavy-duty industrial safety boots featuring steel toe, metatarsal protection, and anti-slip oil-resistant outsoles for blasting yards.

Steel toe cap — EN ISO 20345 S5 impact rated
Metatarsal guard — protects top of foot from falling abrasive bags
Oil-resistant SRC outsole — slip-resistant on steel and wet surfaces
Ankle support — reduces sprain risk on uneven blast yard surfaces
Industrial Role:

Impact and slip protection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What PPE is mandatory for abrasive blasting?

Air-supplied blast helmet (positive pressure, ANSI Z87.1+ rated) with Grade D breathing air is mandatory. Leather blast suit with double-stitched seams and Kevlar thread. Leather gloves with 15cm extended cuffs. Steel-toe safety boots (EN ISO 20345 S5). Hearing protection (85+ dB(A) in blast zone). Standard dust masks (N95) are NOT acceptable for silica-generating abrasives. BLAST APEX stocks a full range of blasting PPE.

How often should blast suits be replaced?

Blast suits should be replaced when: leather shows visible tears or cuts (especially at seams and joints), stitching is broken or fraying, holes exceed 10mm diameter, or after 500-800 operating hours of heavy use. Inspect blast suits before every shift. Minor tears can be repaired with leather patches up to 3 times, after which the suit should be replaced for operator safety.

What type of respirator is needed for confined space blasting?

Confined space abrasive blasting requires supplied-air respirator (SAR) with positive pressure, not a filtered respirator. The SAR delivers clean air through a dedicated hose from a filtration system. Oxygen levels must be maintained above 19.5%. Continuous atmospheric monitoring is mandatory per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146. A buddy system (one operator inside, one stationed outside) is required at all times.
