Even the highest quality industrial coatings can fail if they contain "holidays"—microscopic pinholes, cracks, or air bubbles that allow moisture to reach the substrate. The BLAST APEX Holiday Detector is a specialized porosity detection system designed to identify these hidden flaws before the asset is placed into service.

Essential for pipelines, storage tanks, and marine ballast systems, our holiday detectors ensure that the protective barrier is 100% continuous. By conducting a high-voltage spark test, inspectors can verify the integrity of the coating system in compliance with **NACE SP0188** and **ASTM D5162** standards.

Spark Detection Principle

The device generates a regulated DC or pulsed-DC voltage that is applied to the coating surface via an electrode (brush or rolling spring). When the electrode passes over a flaw, a spark jumps through the pinhole to the grounded substrate, triggering an audible and visual alarm. The test voltage is calculated based on the coating's dielectric strength and thickness, ensuring that flaws are detected without damaging sound coating areas.
