Pop-up valve faults

Slow press-up, pulsing abrasive, constant leak, no depressurise. What the pop-up and gasket are doing and what to replace.

Home / Technical guides / Pop-up valve faults

The pop-up is the lid inside the fill opening. Air lifts it onto a gasket and the pot becomes a closed vessel. If grit sits on that ring, or the gasket is hard or inverted, the pot will not hold pressure. You then waste compressor CFM and the nozzle PSI is a lie.

Worked check: depressurise, lock out the air, look at the seat. A black ring with a flat, shiny wear face is due for replacement. A white or grey dust cake is usually wet slag; dry the pot before you blame the rubber. Keep two spare gaskets per 300 L or 500 L pot on the truck. Quote the BLAST APEX model so the ring matches the seat; a 150 L gasket will not seal a 500 L.

Keep spare gaskets on every 501-R class pot. BLAST APEX stocks pots; quote the model when you order seals so the ring matches the seat.

Engineer FAQs

Pot will not build pressure.

Debris on the seat or a worn gasket. Clean the ring. Replace the gasket. Do not keep blasting with a leak: you waste air and you cannot hold nozzle PSI.
